Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge?

We volunteer our work in the spirit of 1Peter 4:10

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms." Your Dr. Luke volunteer may be a retired professional like TomZ or a current corporate talent. We reserve the right to match and prioritize projects with our available volunteer hours or refuse them outright at our discretion. You own your content and your outcomes, we make no claims as to their accuracy or effectiveness.

What do you consider "content" and "communications?"

Dr. Luke volunteers specialize in concise written content composed for use in Gospel-oriented ministries and outreach. Today’s most effective communicators mix blogs, podcasts, sermons, articles, web sites, books, video scripts, training materials and event presentations. Creative briefs are a great way to pre-plan how you align audiences and goals before lasering in on media and content.

Why "Dr. Luke?"

By most accounts, Paul's companion Luke contributed as much as 25% of the Bible's New Testament content.  Luke worked tirelessly behind the scenes listening, researching and curating. Luke's concise accounts of people and events are riveting and inspired. No words wasted. Time tested across ever changing audiences for two thousand years. Paul referred to Dr. Luke as "my fellow worker." Philemon 1:24  Most ministry communicators could use the collaborative assistance of a "Dr. Luke."

What is the breadth of your volunteer expertise?

  1. Effective communicators should have a goal or outcome in mind for their clearly defined audiences. Think of Paul and the Athenians in Acts 17. We can help you articulate yours.
  2. What's the best strategy with which to guide your content development plan? How might you best reach your audience and with what content tools? Message frequency? Timing? Follow-up?  Let's think it through.
  3. What are your best content delivery channels? Where will your audiences engage their content? Listening? Reading? In-person, online, print, voice, combination?
  4. What is the best format and "voice" of your content? Optimum  word counts vary for online, spoken and print. Blogs are shorter than articles. Podcasts may be longer (and chattier!) than sermons.
  5. Yes, you do need someone else to review and edit your draft copy!  It's tough love to scrutinize your own content with specific audience persona and target outcomes in mind. We advocate  - and deliver - concise, clear, cogent content. You decide what to use, or not.
